5 Reasons AEW Should Sign Cesaro AEW (& 5 Reasons They Shouldn’t)
4. Reason He Shouldn’t: Cesaro’s limitations
It’s easy to paint AEW as the wrestling promotion and WWE as the sports entertainment company, but their products are actually closer in tone and content than some fans would care to admit. AEW presents itself as a serious sporting league but it’s still a television show. The promotion is built on the same foundations of characters and drama as its rival.
AEW viewers will enjoy (and actively demand) great wrestling from their weekly fix of Dynamite but it takes more than that to keep them coming back week after week. That’s why the company needs guys like MJF who know how to spin yarns and drop a hook that makes you want to tune in next time. Even the likes of Jungle Boy has had to learn the art of the pithy one-liner from Christian in order to progress to the next level.
Cesaro deserves credit for cutting promos in his second language, or is it his third? The guy speaks so many that he’s objectively a good talker, just not necessarily in the way that makes you a wrestling superstar.
Yes, WWE prioritises talking in a way that actively undermines some of its best workers. Yes, Cesaro is such a technical wizard that it helps balance his lack of verbal fireworks. But pretending mic work isn’t a vital skill is disingenuous. In AEW the top, top guys can do both.
