5 Reasons Cody Rhodes Will Succeed In WWE (And 5 Reasons He Won't)
1. Won’t - Sheer Spite
Vince McMahon is a businessman first and foremost, and inarguably a damn good one. While he’s prone to the odd bizarre decision, the fact is the man has made more money from wrestling than anyone. If he’s signing someone on a big-money deal, that’s a decision he’s thought long and hard about.
Still, he’s also a human being, and an emotional one at that. And there’s a slim but impossible to ignore the chance that he could consider burying Cody Rhodes out of sheer spite for Rhodes’ part in AEW’s emergence and rise.
It would be immensely petty, but he’s done something similar before. The acquisition of WCW storyline is one of sports entertainment’s greatest disappointments and that’s largely down to mismanagement of Ted Turner’s former talent, the majority of whom were made to look like jobbers and losers.
Vince has been the undisputed king of the mountain for decades and it’s unlikely he feels the kind of antipathy towards AEW as he did WCW. Still, Cody’s made a concerted effort to create a genuine rival to WWE, and for that, he may just have to be punished.
