As Rhodes himself cheerfully acknowledged to the press, he is being paid a great deal of money by WWE. And while this is a company with no small amount of money to throw around, racking up record profits in several of the last quarters, a hefty contract still remains a show of faith.
There’s no telling what has or hasn’t been promised to Rhodes to lure him back to WWE, but the fact they’re willing to dip deep into their pockets to re-sign a performer they were once happy to release does inspire a degree of confidence. Rhodes is a more bankable star than ever before; the assumption is that the money will be recouped via merch and tickets.
WWE have demonstrated recently that a new contract does promise good things: Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn were two semi-surprising re-ups for the company but both gained amazing WrestleMania showcases as a result, and AJ Styles was similarly rewarded with a big ‘Mania match.
