It has been widely reported that Jinder Mahal is in the position he is because of his Indian ethnicity. WWE is constantly looking for ways to increase its profile on the international stage, and India seems to be the key country for 2017. Mahal happened to be the right man with the right face in the right place at the right time.

Such beliefs are somewhat disrespectful to the Modern Day Maharaja, but the convenience of Mahal's reign is difficult to ignore. Reports indicate that Mahal hasn't been as big a success in India as WWE hoped, but again this isn't entirely the fault of the man himself. India may have a humongous population, but the spending power of the majority is non-existent.

WWE is unlikely to give up on the sub-continent so quickly. Japan is a stable wrestling market, and one that WWE has dipped its toes into on numerous occasions. 2017 has seen the company go all-in on India (all-India), and it is too soon to give up.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
