5 Reasons WWE Is Losing Fans In The Post-Kayfabe Era
3. Internal Leaks/Spoilers
Professional wrestling is often at its best when it's able to surprise audiences. One of the greatest things about the Monday Night Wars was not knowing who was going to show up where or when.
The age of around the clock wrestling news has created a post-kayfabe environment in which wrestlers often speak out of character and reveal behind the scenes happenings and, in some cases, potential (or upcoming) storylines.
Now that kayfabe's gone, wrestlers and/or other backstage personnel are all too willing to overshare. These leaks have to lead to match outcomes being spoiled and (what would have been) highly anticipated debuts being made public beforehand.
If a television drama or film becomes too predictable, or if the ending has been revealed, audiences are far more likely to lose interest. These same rules very much apply to the hybrid form of entertainment we call professional wrestling.
Eliminating or significantly limiting spoilers will keep fans on their toes and help make WWE must-see television.
