5 Seriously Underrated WWE Hell In A Cell Matches
1. DX Vs. Legacy - Hell In A Cell 2009
I will happily confess to not being a fan of the DX reunions in either 2006 or 2009. Full of crass toilet humour, in-jokes and the boys in black and green being put over everyone on the roster, they often felt like prolonged and extremely self-indulgent ego trips. That's not to say it was all bad, however. When the duo got serious and worked to get others to their level, they were good.
This was the case in 2009 when Shawn and Hunter began a feud with Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase Jr. of Legacy. Cody and Ted actually managed to get one over on DX at Breaking Point, emerging as surprise victors in a novel Submissions Count Anywhere match. Their PPV series tied at one apiece (DX got the W at SummerSlam) and tensions still simmering, they decided to end things once and for all at Hell in a Cell.
What I particularly liked about this one was that it made good use of the Cell stipulation. Realising they could not take the DX boys in this environment, Legacy elected to attack them during their entrance, locking Triple H outside of the steel structure. What followed was an awesome beatdown of HBK, drawing some great, old-school sympathy heat and making fans yearn for that Triple H save.
Thanks to a pair of boltcutters, The Game managed to make his way back inside the Devil's favourite playground and dished out some sweet revenge. Even though they were beaten, Legacy had main-evented a PPV in a big time stipulation match and really made the veterans work for it. The whole Legacy/DX feud is underrated in itself, but this was the highpoint.
The only thing it was missing was a manly Shawn Michaels bladejob.
