If Gangrel is the Dracula of wrestling vampires, then Kevin Thorn must be the Twilight Saga.

Although he had one hell of a striking and macabre look, he went down like vegan tomato juice at a vampire banquet. The poorly received WWE rendition of ECW was entirely the right place for this gimmick, as it was doomed to fail from the start.

So what made Gangrel work and Thorn fail? Gangrel was cool because he had so much fun with the role. You could tell that Heath revelled in the silliness of the gimmick by playing up to it, whereas Thorn got the wrong idea. The ECW vampire was miscast here as he tried far too hard to be serious. Seeing a vampire wrestle should never be taken seriously, so his efforts to appear terrifying and stern came across as cheap.

Sadly, this reflected by making him incredibly dull to watch. You've got to work very hard to make a gimmick this flashy boring, but his lack of exciting in-ring work, nuance or energy forced the character to feel bland and uninteresting.
