… make it count. Way back in 2019, a big reason for mass excitement around Bray Wyatt’s change of direction was just how well pitched his first match was. With Finn Balor awaiting his fate in the ring, Fiend Wyatt strolled out carrying his own severed head as a lantern, resplendent in fresh creepy clown gear and with revamped music.
The crowd lost their collective mind before the bell rang; when it did, the bout was exactly right. It was a squash, with Wyatt snapping Finn’s neck, no-selling everything, and eventually putting the Prince's lights out with the claw.
The combination of an opponent of genuine clout, the set up, and the decisiveness of the victory were all on point. Wyatt felt here like the new top spooky character he’s always had the potential to be, and it was totally different from anything else on the card.
