5 Things You Didn’t Know About Shayna Baszler’s MMA Career
3. Baszler Never Won An Official Fight In The UFC
By the time Shayna Baszler made her UFC debut (in a non-exhibition fight), she was 34 and had already been competing for over a decade.
In her first UFC bout, she took on a hard-hitting Brazilian fighter by the name of Bethe Correia, at UFC 177, back in 2014. Correia would end up finishing the current NXT star in the second round via TKO. The Brazilian would go on to call out, and ultimately face, Baszler's close friend, Ronda Rousey for the UFC title. Rousey was able to avenge her colleague's loss by knocking out the Brazilian just 34 seconds into the fight.
Things didn't get any easier for Baszler following UFC 177. Her next opponent was current UFC double champ, Amanda Nunes. The two fought at UFC Fight Night 62, which took place on March 25, 2015. Nunes utilized leg kicks to secure a first-round TKO victory.
UFC Fight 62 would turn out to be Baszler's final fight with the promotion. Following her bout with Nunes, the MMA pioneer requested her release so she could pursue professional wrestling.
She ended up going 0-2 in the UFC. However, it should be noted that she did win an exhibition bout against Colleen Schneider during her stint on the Ultimate Fighter reality series. Unfortunately for Baszler, exhibition fights don't count toward one's professional record.
