5 Ups & 2 Downs From HBO's André The Giant Documentary

1. Lengthy Tangent On Hulk Hogan's Rise

There's no denying that Hulk Hogan played an important part in André The Giant's story. As the babyface foil to André's bitter heel in 1987, Hogan was the perfect opponent for WrestleMania III. Most (if not all) watching the doc will already know that, so it's strange that HBO went off on a lengthy Hulk tangent.

In-depth discussion on André's failing health is interrupted so the film makers can go all Hogan fan boy on everyone, and the story turns from focusing solely on The Giant to how Hulkamania was born. That was a mistake.

It was also completely unnecessary.

Hogan is one of the most legendary names in wrestling, and anyone watching the documentary, regular fan or not, will know who he is. There's a little too much time dedicated to how Hulk turned from "Sterling Golden" into the WWF machine's marketing dream.
