5 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Rampage (July 29)

2. Oh Look, A WWE Reference!

Cole Karter QT Marshall The Factory AEW

QT Marshall referenced Cole Karter's WWE demise during his short backstage promo. Like 99.9% of cross-promotional mentions, it was absolutely unnecessary and didn't really resonate the way everybody backstage probably thought it would when they penned it.

NXT fans may recall that Karter, as Troy Donovan, was written off TV in June when Tony D'Angelo mentioned that he was now "sleeping with the fishes". Since then, Donovan has joined AEW as Cole Karter and could be set to join up with QT and The Factory.

That's fine, but the WWE reference was lazy.

Marshall muttered a line about sleeping on the decision "in your own bed, not with the fishes". This is the kind of smart-assed moment that'll get a quick 'nyuk-nyuk' laugh from some behind the scenes. It's just boring that AEW mentions WWE so much though, being honest.
