5 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Rampage (June 24)

Downs...

3. A Squash Rampage Didn’t Need

Mercedes Martinez Serena Deeb
AEW

Serena Deeb and Mercedes Martinez are playing a game of, 'Anything you can do I can do better' with each other. Is it working? Well, it's not terrible, but one has to wonder where it's going. AEW seem to be setting up a female tag-team when they don't even have Women's Tag belts.

Those are coming, but they're unwanted.

Being totally honest, Rampage features this kind of nothing squash match a little too often. It's fine to have one squash if it's done well (more on that later), but two? Yeah, it's overkill for an hour-long show. It also doesn't help that the story between Serena and Mercedes isn't too interesting.

There was no threat that miscommunication could cost them against Laynie Luck and Sierra either. Everyone just sort of went through the motions for three minutes before the bickering veterans picked up a routine win. Hardly thrilling TV.
