5 Ups & 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (July 18)
3. A Predictably Strong Becky Vs. Charlotte Match
There wasn’t much to get genuinely excited about in terms of in-ring action last night, but Becky Lynch and Charlotte took ‘Match Of The Night’ honours. Though slightly worse than some of the contests they’ve had in the past, it was nine minutes of strong action, with Becky picking up a much needed victory, and Charlotte losing for the second consecutive week.
While not quite on the same level as Charlotte and Sasha Banks, these two have great chemistry. They could probably work a good match in their sleep, and this was a well laid out face vs. face match, with neither woman resorting to shenanigans, though Charlotte almost took the win with a roll-up towards the end.
The aftermath saw Natalya hop out of the commentary booth to attack Becky, before Lana and Tamina hit the ring. A five-way brawl to sell Battleground’s number one contender’s match followed, and in the end, ‘The Ravishing Russian’ and her apparent bodyguard stood tall. A basic, repetitive angle to continue SmackDown’s unending multi-women feud, but the action preceding it was strong.
