5 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE SmackDown (3 Oct - Results & Review)
3. Fresh Names Look Like Stars
A sneaky aspect of star-making performances comes from those doing the star-making. So, immense credit must go to Alba Fyre and Chelsea Green, because they understood the assignment on Friday night. Their tag bout vs. Zaria and Sol Ruca existed to make the latter NXT pair look like stars in the making that fans should pay close attention to (rather than developmental failed experiments), and the quartet packed a lot into 4 minutes.
Make no mistake, this represented a fab start to life on the main roster for Sol and Zaria. Both women came across really, really well. Neither missed a beat, and both brought something different to the party throughout the bout; Zaria was the sheer brute force and power of the pair (her lifting sleeper on Alba in the corner looked the business), and Sol's athleticism is stunning (that finisher alone is money).
It'll be interesting to see this fresh pair wrestle Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss, so job done. That was really the mission of this match, and the marching orders for Fyre and Green. They were on the show to ready a new tag for the tag champs, and they did that better than most could've. You've got to admire wrestlers who are team players without completely clowning themselves in the process.
Good workers, man.
There's still a definite split between main roster WWE fans and those who take the time to check out NXT weekly, so some in the audience didn't seem to know who Ruca and Zaria were. That's fine. They will soon, especially if this quickfire effort is anything to go by.
Attention, Triple H: Lil' bit extra cheese on Chelsea and Alba's whoppers wouldn't go amiss this month for that performance. Green is generally fabulous at her job.
