5 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Aug 26)

2. The Main Event Builds Then Delivers

Man, those video packages on Drew McIntyre were great. Then, as a cool complement, all that backstage stuff between The Bloodline and Sami Zayn ended up being some of the best WWE has done in years. Everyone played their roles flawlessly, and Zayn even has the chance to breakout into an unlikely babyface role.

Just look at how much was covered in one paragraph there, and compare it to Vince McMahon's approach. No, this isn't supposed to be some unnecessary burial of McMahon's booking, but he did tread water a ton towards the end of his tenure. By comparison, WWE moved everyone forward without much effort here.

The main event between Sami and Drew also clicked. No shocker there, because they're both world class talents, but it's still worth mentioning. McIntyre wanted to build momentum for Clash, and Zayn had his marching orders to stop the Scot from Roman Reigns.

Simple. Storytelling. Is. Best.
