5 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (20 June - Results & Review)

1. Helluva Men’s KOTR Semi Final

That's an obvious play on words with Sami Zayn’s finisher there, but ooft! What a match between Sami and Randy Orton. They worked a nice bit of pre-amble setting up their own tension and Raw’s coming semi pitting Cody Rhodes vs. Jey Uso beforehand, then both guys brought it once the bell rang. “THIS IS AWESOME” chants from Grand Rapids were justified here.

Zayn continues to struggle in his own personal quest to get closer to the World Title, and we’re now almost guaranteed Randy vs. Cody. Or, maybe they’ll go with Orton vs. Uso in the end. That’s the beauty of these tourney semis. It’s rather difficult to tell who’s winning them. Looking back, Randy made most sense here due to Wade Barrett harping on about how he was screwed over vs. Gunther last year, but it was hard to predict whilst the Sami match was still in progress on SmackDown.

These vets took fans on a ride throughout.

Randy reversing Zayn's kick attempt into a sudden scooped power slam looked awesome, and so did the finish that saw Sami run head first into an RKO after managing to avoid Orton's first attempt. Sami becoming World Champ someday does sound fab, so maybe WWE can ride that train all the way to next year's WrestleMania? Just a thought.

The company's Fatal-4-Way openers for both the King and Queen Of The Ring tourneys got old after a while, but these straight up singles semi final matches have been sensational thus far. Dynamic, ridiculously tight work between Randy and Sami here.
