5 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (3 May - Results & Review)

3. Fun Enough Sprint

Bianca Belair Jade Cargill
WWE

The eight-woman tag worked overall.

Yeah, the match had house show fare written all over it, but there was more at play than borderline-comedic miscues from the heels or the babyfaces running through a bunch of routine spots. That story element between Belair and Bayley was huge, and the agent in charge cleverly protected The Kabuki Warriors towards the end.

Bianca pinned Dakota Kai, not Asuka or Kairi Sane. That's important. There would've been no need to give away what's expected to be a Backlash finish on SmackDown, put it that way. Either Jade Cargill or Belair will beat one of those Kabuki Warriors on Saturday night anyway, so this was always Kai's banana peel to slip on.

It was the right call to put this match in the ring first and let some of the bigger plot points breathe. Lyon didn't really respond in kind to the frost between Bianca and Bayley, but it came across loud and clear to TV viewers watching at home. Job done!
