5 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Jan 27)
Downs...
4. It’ll Take More Than This
WWE fans are still waiting for Lacey Evans to nail down her purpose on the roster. Everyone out there is a bit numb to Lacey after endless alignment changes over the past few years, and it'll take more than a squash match win to convince most that she's worth paying attention to for more than a couple of weeks.
Sorry, but it's true.
Evans' win over Jazmin Allure (AEW Dark: Elevation represent!) fell fairly flat, and so did her promo about entering the Royal Rumble. Here's the problem: Lacey was badly damaged by her prior reset. She was cast as a sympathetic sob story babyface, then turned into a heel. Now, WWE is going the female Sgt. Slaughter route with her.
Again, people are numb to it all. The best thing these writers can do is stick Evans in a feud opposite a babyface fans like and give both women some time to figure things out. All this chopping and changing isn't doing Lacey any favours.
