5 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SummerSlam 2025 - Saturday (Results & Review)
2. Rollins Pulls Off Another Heist
Ever since Saturday Night’s Main Event last month, fans have been playing detective to determine whether Seth Rollins’ knee injury was real or if it was all part of the show.
After collapsing and quickly losing to LA Knight on that Saturday show, Rollins disappeared from television. Reports about the severity of his knee injury were inconclusive, with no details emerging and stories circulating that this was all a work, designed not just to throw fans, but also the wrestlers in storylines.
Sure enough, Seth made his way out to the ramp after CM Punk won the World Heavyweight Championship, hobbling on crutches while wearing a big ol’ knee brace, only to ditch everything and run to the ring, cash in, and dethrone Punk.
For Rollins and his stable, this was a necessary next step. The group could not continue to talk a good game about taking over Raw and just continue to flounder as a heel act without the top prize, especially after Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed lost to Roman Reigns and Jey Uso in the opening match. The title lends credibility to the act and shows commitment to the story.
For Punk, it’s payback in a strange way. At WrestleMania 40, a sidelined Punk battered new World Heavyweight Champion Drew McIntyre at ringside, opening the door for Damian Priest to cash in and end his title reign at five minutes. Saturday, it was Punk whose WHC run was ended via Money in the Bank cash-in after about five minutes with the belt.
