5 Ups & 5 Downs From NXT Vengeance Day 2024

3. A Tale Of Two Matches

Lyra Valkyria Roxanne Perez
WWE

The NXT Women’s Championship match(es) was/were really well done, weaving a serious game of chess between Lyra Valkyria and Roxanne Perez before turning into a pure melee when Lola Vice cashed in her Breakout Tournament contract and joined the fray.

Perez, the former champion who never lost her title, battled Valkyria, trading pinfall attempts and trying to gain an advantage over the other. But just as Roxanne seemed to get an edge, Vice raced out to make the match a triple threat. Pinfalls came much quicker and the action was nonstop until the finish, which saw stalker Tatum Paxley aid her crush, Lyra.

Fans got a little of everything here: a solid back-and-forth classic title match between two outstanding wrestlers, a mid-match cash-in, and a chaotic triple threat that ramped up the excitement in the closing minutes.

For Perez, this was yet another obstacle, another unfair curveball thrown at her. She never lost her title, and now she lost her one-on-one title match without being pinned. And that might be the best part: justification for Roxanne to slide further into darkness. Fans should expect to see her become even edgier in her presentation going forward.
