5 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (28 Sept - Results & Review)

1. Dragon FINALLY Gets A Big Win

WWE Raw Dragon Lee

Thank God Dragon Lee finally picked up a big victory Monday night, because he was getting perilously close to being permanently stuck with that tag of having “potential.”

Dragon has been wowing audiences more consistently in recent months, finally getting the chance to shine in the ring – though he kept falling short, running the risk of being stigmatized as the guy who has bangers but ultimately loses to the real stars.

Still, WWE fans have been responding well to Lee in these competitive losses, and he was rewarded Monday with a win over Big Cass, fighting from underneath and constantly trying to chop the big man down to size. Dragon did a tremendous job – as did Cass – of getting across the urgency of the struggle and the need to capitalize every time he went down even to a knee.

Lee hit a flurry of corner dropkicks to rattle Cass, then low-bridged him outside before wailing him with a torpedo dive to the floor. An inside-out hurricanrana further rattled Cass, but he managed to catch a crossbody attempt. Dragon escaped that, turned a powerbomb attempt into a DDT, and then, when Operation Dragon backfired, he reversed a chokeslam into a sunset flip with a high stack for the win.

This deserves praise for using Cass – and his flagging push as a “monster heel” since returning – as a vehicle for Dragon to finally get a signature win after numerous near-misses. However, if they send Lee out there to do the J-O-B next week – or 50/50 him with Cass – then this is moot.
