5 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (7 April - Results & Review)

2. SHUT UP, MCAFEE

Pat McAfee
WWE

If WWE is going to insist on employing Pat McAfee as their Raw color commentator, the least they can do is install a kill switch on his mic so Michael Cole or Triple H can just mute him when he starts spouting off and killing the vibe of a segment.

During Jey Uso’s entrance, which came moments after airing the video package showing Jimmy Uso’s brutal decimation, McAfee danced on the desk and yeeted with the fans, suggesting Jey was locked in, and fans would “yeet all over Gunther” for him. He proclaimed it was “a good yeetfest” and simply would not stop carrying on as Jey slowly walked through the crowd.

There’s a time and place for hyping up the crowd, and this absolutely wasn’t it. It completely undercut the seriousness of the moment for an announcer – who is supposed to help set the tone for the audience – to act like a 12-year-old fan attending his first WWE show.

It’s also worth docking the fans a point for not paying attention to Jey repeatedly trying to shush the fans and get them to stop yelling “yeet” during every pause in his promo. He was trying to be serious about his brother getting bloodied and sent to the hospital, and fans were just looking to yeet in the gaps. Pay attention and read the room, gang.
