5 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Saturday Night's Main Event (24 May - Results & Review)

WWE Saturday Night's Main Event Cody Rhodes John Cena

It was only a matter of time before Cody Rhodes made his triumphant return to right the wrongs caused by John Cena. That time came during the closing moments of Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Rhodes streaked down to the ring after John Cena had interfered in Jey Uso’s World Heavyweight Championship match to try to help Logan Paul win the title. Cody dropped Cena with a Cross-Rhodes and ducked a Logan KO punch, allowing Jey to spear the challenger and splash him for the win.

The crowd reaction was deafening, which told everyone all they needed to know about how much he was missed during this past month, and how vital Cody is to WWE. He has been the heart and soul of the company for the past couple of years, and even being off television for a month made the product feel that much staler and less than.

Cody immediately challenged Paul and Cena to face him and his former tag partner Uso to a match at Money in the Bank, which has to be a pivot away from Travis Scott competing alongside Cena as had been reported. If so, it’s an incredibly smart one. Logan has become pretty one-dimensional as a wrestler, but he’s at least competent and most likely won’t concuss someone.

Regardless, Rhodes being back is undoubtedly the biggest news of the show (save the confirmation of Evolution II in July). A huge welcome back for the company’s unquestioned captain.
