5 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE SmackDown (2 Jan - Results & Review)
2. Take 2 For Giulia, But…
...she still isn’t over on the main roster, and it’s unlikely that winning the Women’s United States Title for a second time will change that.
WWE are just repeating the same thing here, and they better have something in mind for Giulia or she’ll have another dull reign for a few months before dropping the belt all over again. Chelsea Green might be this division’s ‘in emergency, break glass’ button, come to think of it. That’s because she’s entertaining no matter what she’s doing. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Giulia right now.
Their match wasn’t terrible by any means, but it’s hard to get excited about this title or the new champ. Giulia came into WWE with a lot of hype and was better on NXT, but her matches are nothing special, promos aren’t her strong suit, and nobody cares about the Women’s US Title. All of that collides to make it a proper struggle for her in WWE.
Kiana James hasn't been talking a lot lately either, which begs the question: What is her purpose if not to cut promos aplenty for Giulia and take that pressure off the new champ's shoulders? Yep, every aspect of this package needs a rethink from top to bottom. The Women's US Title comes across as a sticking plaster from Triple H then.
It might be for the best if Giulia works an 'Open Challenge' gimmick weekly like the guys have been doing with their United States strap. If nothing else, at least that'd let her concentrate on actually wrestling, because it's clear that WWE have zero clue how to flesh out some personality for the international star.
