5 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE SmackDown (July 8)

2. What Was The Point?

Drew McIntyre Sheamus

Drew McIntyre had already made it clear that he planned to challenge for the Undisputed Title come Clash At The Castle this September. WWE literally penned those promos a few months back when the event was first being hyped. So...what in the name of William Wallace was this all about?

Sure, putting Drew vs. Sheamus in the ring is never a bad time (those lads always work bangers), but it didn't happen. Plus, the whole COVID side story and Butch being squashed was plain unnecessary. Honestly, Conrad Thompson needs to pin Bruce Prichard down on their podcast and ask, "Who booked this sh*t?!".

It was a waste of some seriously good workers, and ye olde bait and switch is rarely satisfying anyway. WWE slapped fans in the face for sticking around until the end of SmackDown, then expected them to be happy that McIntyre cut the ropes with his sword again.

Senseless booking.
