5 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE WrestleMania XII

2. Wild Men

Marc Mero had a bad run at life in WWE after word spread of the guaranteed contract he'd gained from Vince McMahon as the company began playing catch-up with Eric Bischoff' and Ted Turner's big spending.

It wasn't his fault that he'd pocketed the deal of course, nor was it quite as apparent why McMahon really saw value in the 'Wildman' - at least until Sable sided with him in the weeks following this backstage scuffle with a disgruntled Triple H.

The pair Rumbled following Triple H's squash as the blueblood blamed the then-nameless valet for his loss. Mero's promo was cheesy and his shoving match with Helmsley wasn't a great deal better, but the fight over Sable here and on subsequent editions of Raw did much to establish all three acts as staples of a revamped and revitalised midcard.
