5 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE Clash Of Champions 2020

1. McIntyre Needs Help

After spending months building Drew McIntyre up as this dominant superhero champion, it took three other wrestlers to bail him out and vanquish Randy Orton Sunday.

How anyone scripting this could have let it go and not raised their hand to ask, “Wouldn’t this make our face champ look weak to need help from three superstars to beat a guy he’s already beaten once?” is beyond comprehension.

And yet, Big Show chokeslammed Orton through a table when it looked like Randy was going to hit a punt just minutes into the match (also, McIntyre got to lay on the mat for a full minute while this played out). Then Christian saved Drew backstage by attacking Orton. Finally, Shawn Michaels hit Sweet Chin Music on top of the ambulance and shoved him off while McIntyre was incapacitated on the floor.

Look, it makes sense that the people who Orton hurt during his reign of terror would want to get revenge on him, and having them cost Orton a title match isn’t the worst idea, but this was executed in perhaps the worst possible way, making McIntyre look like a goof who got lucky that others saved him.

Just terrible scripting that makes you want to scream.
