5 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE Raw (29 April - Results & Review)

5. But Why?

Gunther Kofi Kingston Xavier Woods
WWE

Xavier Woods versus Gunther was a decent, fun little match Monday night, with Woods serving as a solid opponent for the Ring General as he looked to get back on track after WrestleMania 40.

So why is this a negative?

Only three people have declared their intentions to compete in the upcoming King of the Ring tournament, and two of them are… Woods and Gunther. One week later, they’re matched up against each other and Gunther beats him clean, tapping Xavier out. Wouldn’t it have been more ideal to have Kofi Kingston fill that role, wrestling hurt and finally succumbing, giving Woods incentive to seek revenge during the tournament?

Instead, the match has now taken place. Even if it ultimately leads to a KOTR finals between the two, the outcome wouldn’t be much in doubt – Gunther won this pretty handily, with Kingston considering throwing in the towel at some point.

Of course, there’s a caveat to this negative: If Woods is deemed unable to compete due to “injury” (Gunther viciously attacked the knee throughout the match) and Kofi steps in to avenge his teammate, then this might make some sense. But as it stands, it’s just the latest iteration of Imperium versus New Day to grace our screens.
