5 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE Raw After WrestleMania 42 (Results & Review)

2. CM Punk…Brushes It Off?

Firstly, yours truly gets that CM Punk saying WrestleMania wasn’t his night and then moving on was the crux of why Cody Rhodes interrupted him to check if he’s alright, but this fan was personally expecting more than that. Punk had to address his body giving out on him at a crucial moment vs. Roman Reigns on Sunday night, but he didn’t.

The ex-World Heavyweight Champ just went the cocksure route and brushed it all off before lining up a future WWE Title bout vs. Cody instead. Hmm. On the plus side, it was a good thing that this pair didn’t just compliment one another like they did on SmackDown heading into last weekend's supershow, but we didn’t feel the weight of Punk’s loss to Roman here at all and that’s a pity when it would’ve been the most natural story to tell.

Where were the puppy dog eyes? The wobbling spirit as a man came to terms with his own mortality? All of that potentially excellent storytelling was washed away in an instant because Punker was just sort of like, 'Oh well, onto the next chapter of my WWE life'. Beaten former champions simply have to be more serious and reflective than that.

A heel turn for either Punk or Cody is likely on the cards. It's either that or this was an in advance teaser for next year's 'Mania 43. Whichever way you cut it, ol' CM here had to acknowledge that his body is slowing down and he might not be able to hack the pace at WWE's top table anymore.

Nope. Wasn't even mentioned at all.
