5 Ups & 8 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Jan 8)

5. DDP/MJF Confrontation Falls Flat

DDP MJF

Bringing Diamond Dallas Page into the Cody/MJF feud makes sense, given his Nightmare Family affiliation, though the in-ring confrontation between him and 'The Salt of the Earth' fell flat after a promising start.

MJF cut a textbook promo to kick things off, calling Cody a "little b*tch" when he failed to answer a 10-count to come out and accept his stipulations, drawing DDP from the back. Page rambled. He put himself over, put DDPY over, and put AEW over while MJF tweeted away in the background. Then came the toilet humour, with Page calling Wardlow "Wardblow," though things looked like they'd heat up when MJF brought The Butcher and The Blade out, telling DDP To kiss the ring or hit the dirt.

A cold, cold brawl followed. Page, at 63 years old, single-handedly took out The Butcher and The Blade, and came close to blasting MJF as well. An MJF low-blow drew QT Marshall and Dustin Rhodes out for the save to set up what should be a fun trios match next week, though the whole thing was surprisingly lukewarm for such a big storyline. Disappointing execution all-round.
