5 Ups & 8 Downs From WWE Raw (Feb 1)

4. A Quiet Calm

Edge Drew McIntyre
WWE

The Edge of a decade ago might have been seething and fired up when he cut his first promo after winning the Royal Rumble. But that’s not who got in the ring on Monday night.

This Edge is a Hall-of-Famer, a father, and a man pushing 50. He’s seen it all, done it all, and has little to prove. So when he came out to talk to Drew McIntyre, Edge was all business. He calmly asked McIntyre what was wrong with him? He intimated that the WWE Champion was patronizing him by treating a “viable threat” as a praiseworthy mentor rather than a potential WrestleMania opponent.

And all of that was a great point. While Drew noted that he’s not an opportunist like Edge, the Rated-R Superstar pointedly warned the champ that he was playing a dangerous game and that he would make his decision known soon enough.

This version of Edge – the weary, battle-tested warrior – could be intriguing. He’s also the opposite of the fire-breathing Goldberg that McIntyre just beat on Sunday. That’s an interesting angle if they choose to run with it.
