5 Ups & 8 Downs From WWE Raw (May 3)

6. When Hoss Fights Go Too Long

A couple of months back, Bobby Lashey defeated Braun Strowman in a four-minute match en route to winning the WWE Championship the following week. It was a hard-hitting match between two bruisers that was short, energetic and fun.

On Monday, we got a 13-minute bout between Lashley and Strowman that kept going and going and going, with a Drew McIntyre entrance music distraction mid-match, and then a McIntyre distraction finish. Wrapped around that was a more plodding match as Braun and Bobby had to fill more time, so they slowed things down from February’s match… and it showed.

This is proof that some matches are better designed to go short and cram action into them rather than stretching it out to 10-20 minutes. It doesn’t always work. And when you throw in entrance music distractions, and accidental contact leading to a distraction finish, you’re just asking for trouble.
