7. ‘Love’ Is In The Air

With all the soap opera rejects WWE has employed as writers on their shows, you’d think this company could tell a decent romantic story… but you’d be wrong.

Raw has featured its own version of romance recently in the 24/7 division, with Dana Brooke and Reggie fleeing from the rest of the geeks for months. A couple of weeks ago, Reggie took Dana out for Valentine’s Day despite Brooke clearly telling him they were just friends. When she rejected his advances again, he rolled her up and stole her prized possession, the 24/7 title.

Last week, they made up when Reggie offered to drop the title to her. Dana had to forcibly kiss him to hold him down for the pin, and the announcers acted like it was the most romantic thing they’d ever seen (well, Byron Saxton was ebullient, but he probably makes out with his pillow every night).

Monday, Dana and Reggie won a mixed tag match and they celebrated with a kiss, making this a romance born out of persistence against a woman’s repeated rejections, betrayal, and bribery. And then Tamina kissed Akira Tozawa, because it’s funny! Look at the mismatched couple! Laugh!

*Sigh* Maybe this writer takes stuff too seriously and should just enjoy it, but comedy should be funny and entertaining to a broad audience, not something that’s bereft of any creativity or wit.
