5 Ups And 2 Downs For WWE NXT (Jun 1)
1. MSK Rise To Legado's Challenge
A few weeks removed from getting the better of MSK and KUSHIDA in six-man tag action, Legado del Fantasma's Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde finally got their crack at the reigning NXT Tag Team Champions this week.
We'd already seen during the TakeOver: Stand and Deliver three-way involving these teams that the two units had boatloads of chemistry, and their latest collision provided more of the same as the dastardly heels brutalised and isolated the (unexpectedly booed) babyface boys. This frequently spilled over into a compelling MSK fight back as Wes Lee flipped out of his skin and Nash Carter knee'd and kicked anything with a pulse.
With Santos Escobar at ringside, however, it was only ever a matter of time before the former Cruiserweight Champion took matters into his own hands. Yet, after nearly costing MSK their belts on the back of launching Lee into the steps, Carter saved his partner from taking the 'L' and Escobar was creamed into the barricade by the current North American Champion. Needless to say, Bronson Reed may have just inadvertently created NXT's latest meme-worthy moment.
This intervention paved the way for an MSK comeback, with the two lads nailing Wilde with their trademark tag team neckbreaker for the hard-fought victory.
If Timothy Thatcher, Tommaso Ciampa, and the grizzled Young Veterans' brief cameos mid-match were anything to go by too, expect the winner of that eventual blow-off to be next in line for the reigning champs and for this division to continue to be a weekly highlight for the black and gold brand.
