5 Ups And 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (May 30)

2. Anarchy In The Women's Division

SmackDown's women weren't onscreen for long this week, but their contributions were meaningful. Everybody not named "Naomi" was set to wrestle for the right to challenge for the Women's Championship at Money In The Bank, but it was bedlam. The match never truly got started, and when Charlotte powerbombed Natalya though a table, Shane McMahon decided he'd seen enough, and cooled things off with a massive announcement.

All five competitors will compete in the first ever women's Money In The Bank ladder match on June 18th. The contest had been rumoured for weeks, and it opens up all kinds of exciting new possibilities in a division that has lacked coherence and direction since the Royal Rumble. It came on the back of a messy, shambolic brawl too, and if the non-match is anything to go by, MITB is going to be insane.

The setup felt violent and hateful, and the ladder match is extremely enticing. It's a great opportunity to kickstart Becky Lynch's return to the top, finally install Charlotte as the division's alpha heel, or give Natalya the big, career defining victory that has eluded her for years. It's exciting and unpredictable, and if WWE are going to forgo individual rivalries and stroylines for a while longer, this is the way to do it.
