5 Ups And 3 Downs From Last Night’s WWE SmackDown (Aug 27)
1. Dolph Ziggler Looked Weak Despite His Win Due To Big Show Turning Face
One of the new directions that WWE is heading in following SummerSlam is Big Show turning face. That's the kind of thing that makes me want to groan because I really don't want to see it. Show is much more effective as a heel, yet WWE is booking him like the guy that can't do anything right and when he has a partner like Rusev he ends up getting beat up. During this tag match with Show teaming up with Rusev against Ryback and Dolph Ziggler, the heel duo had problems all match long. Rusev tagged himself in and he didn't want Show to tag into the match. What bothered me so much was that Ziggler was booked like a babyface that didn't mean anything as he got a fluke win only after Big Show gave Rusev a KO Punch while Ziggler was trapped in the Accolade. Why book Ziggler in such a weak way? I know it was done because the main purpose of the match was to accelerate Show's turn. I just think Ziggler should be treated as a more important figure. This win by Ziggler came off as a fluke and shouldn't encourage any fan to think that he has a shot against Rusev in a singles match even though he should be booked to competitive against him. The guess here is that Show will help Ziggler beat Rusev when the Ziggler/Rusev feud ends so that Show can feud with Rusev, which really doesn't excite me that much at all.
