5 Ups And 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (May 5)

Everybody on the books at WWE should have something to sink their teeth into, nobody should be left out in the cold without some kind of character. That's why it was so great to see The Social Outcasts form (despite their jobber status), and the same can be said for Darren Young.

On SmackDown, Young started by cutting a simple promo that introduced his new character well. There was an air of Diamond Dallas Page's old 'Positively Page' guise about the new gimmick, although it wasn't anywhere near as cheesy. Darren simply explained that he had renewed focus, and then asked Bob Backlund to be his 'life coach'.

Few could have foreseen that one coming, but it somehow worked. Backlund accepted, calling himself a 'wrestling coach'. It's clear WWE are going to go down the comedy route with this one, but at least Young has some sort of direction now. Before, he was just another piece of enhancement talent, now he has something to talk about. That can't be a bad thing.
