5 Ups And 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Oct 22)
1. Lack Of Build For Kane vs. Seth Rollins
On Smackdown, Seth Rollins and Kane only interacted with one another briefly. During a show-opening promo, the pair met backstage, and 'Corporate' Kane warned the WWE World Heavyweight Champion not to feign injury like he did on Monday Night Raw. The banter was light, and so was the build towards their title match at Hell In A Cell. Maybe the creative team feel they've done everything they can to hype the bout, but something should have happened on Smackdown. This is a problem many viewers have with the program, sometimes the writers forget to put any major storyline development on it. Thus, Smackdown is perceived as a show which is easy to miss, because people won't lose out on anything important by doing so. There really should have been more substance to the promo than was given. The dynamic between 'Corporate' and 'Demon' Kane begs for exploration, but WWE have provided just the very bare bones during the rivalry. At this point, Rollins should not even want to speak to 'Corporate' Kane backstage, because he has figured out his game plan. The champ needs to be booked smarter than this, and his challenger more effectively, if fans are going to be invested.
