5 Ups And 3 Downs From UFC 246
1. Magnificent McGregor
Conor McGregor dispelled any doubts about whether or not he was still a top fighter, after he absolutely mauled Donald Cerrone in one of the most brutal 40 seconds of violence you'll see in any combat sport.
McGregor hinted that he might want to take his time and get some cage time in against his opponent, but that clearly wasn't the case as he pounced on Cerrone swiftly. Despite missing his first punch due to a well timed duck from Cerrone, McGregor's follow-up strikes from the clinch using his left shoulder were absolutely brutal. Say what you will about the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion, but he's an incredibly creative striker with a whole arsenal of tools at his disposal.
After landing a vicious head kick to Cowboy's jaw, Cerrone followed up with pinpoint accurate ground and pound, forcing Cerrone to turtle up and try and defend against the damage. However, he simply couldn't withstand the punishment McGregor was dishing out and the fight was stopped. It's a brilliant way to start the year and McGregor's win should lead to some very exciting fights in the future.
