5 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (June 24)

2. Owens Is The Best Talker In The Entire WWE

At the top of the show, Kevin Owens proved why he's not just the best talker in NXT, he's the best talker in the whole company. He has a laid-back quality to his delivery that is at once charming and humorous, compelling and sinister. He interrupted Hideo Itami, who was taking advantage of being on the show for the Dusty Tribute, talking to the crowd about his injury, and his intentions of challenging the winner of the Balor/Owens match on July 4th. Owens emerged and mocked the Japanese megastar, quietly threatening to injure his other arm. What's so good about Owens is that he rarely, if ever, feels scripted. That is a rare skill, especially in today's overly-scripted WWE. It's not a skill that even John Cena or Triple H possess on a consistent basis. Even Paul Heyman, eloquent as he is, often comes across as pre-prepared. Apart from CM Punk, no one has appeared to be speaking as naturally as Kevin Owens in years, and it'll take him to the very top of the business. Even his mistakes are entertaining. During his exchange with Itami, Owens stumbled over the word 'delusional', to the point that the crowd acknowledged his mistake. Owens then fired back, "I'm stumbling as much as Hideo when he tries to speak English", and the crowd erupted, reeling like an audience witnessing a sick burn at a rap battle. Those instincts are damn near impossible to teach, and when Owens is able to turn a flub into gold, that's the mark of the best talker in WWE right now.
