5 Ups And 6 Downs From WWE Crown Jewel 2022

4. Mercifully Short, But Not Short Enough

You can understand why WWE wanted to book as many “spectacle” matches as possible for Crown Jewel, but when you looked at the card, you saw two distinctly different, yet very similar matches.

There were two “battle of the giants” matches on the card, with Bobby Lashley facing Brock Lesnar, and then Braun Strowman versus Omos. Lashley and Lesnar was a short, violent match that saw Brock survive. Braun and Omos was a slow, plodding match that played to Omos’ limited strengths and downplayed his numerous shortcomings as a wrestler.

Sure, you can say it was a sideshow match that is supposed to wow the fans with two gigantic men slamming each other, but when there was another similar, much better match earlier on the same card, it made this feel superfluous.

Also, at some point, WWE needs to figure out what to do with Omos. He’s extremely limited, but others have overcome that. The problem is that all Omos seems to have going for him is his size, and that presents a challenge once that novelty wears off. They shouldn’t give up on him, but there’s a window here.
