5 Ups And 6 Downs From WWE Extreme Rules 2020

3. A Bait-And-Switch Finish

Rey Mysterio Eye

To be fair, had WWE gone the full horror movie route and had Seth Rollins pull Rey Mysterio’s eye out of its socket, then this would have been an all-time negative.

But WWE booked an “eye for an eye” match, then delivered a finish where Rey’s eye was pushed into the corner of the steel steps (again), he covered up for a few seconds and screamed for a doctor, and the referee called for the bell. We never saw anything more than some white in Rey’s gloved hand, no blood, no gore… but Rollins did vomit because what he saw apparently was so disgusting.

That was the big special effects, horror show match for this feud. WWE advertised a stupid stipulation and then didn’t deliver, didn’t follow through on their crappy idea – at all.

The worst part is that Rey and Rollins had a pretty good match overall. If you removed the stupid stip, this would have been a good blood-feud match.
