5 Ups And 7 Downs From WWE Raw (Feb 7)
4. Which Is It, Lashley?
In the weeks leading up to Royal Rumble, Bobby Lashley started giving off stronger and stronger vibes of subtly turning face, slapping hands with fans, acting more honorably, and getting a big babyface video package.
Then last week, he suddenly veered off back into heeldom by ignoring his somewhat tainted victory at the Rumble and then bailing on a challenge from Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship.
Suddenly on Monday, Lashley was back to high-fiving fans and soaking in cheers from his hometown faithful. MVP cut a pretty earnest babyface promo, as did the champ. Gone were any hints of being a villain, which makes last week look more like an aberration.
But this “down” is for one simple reason: WWE knew this week’s show was in Denver, Lashley’s hometown. So why book him to act like his win last week was completely clean and then chicken out of a Brock challenge? Why have him act like a pseudo-heel, only to do another 180-degree turn this week while he’s getting cheered.
Make up your mind, WWE. Pick a character and stick with it. Lashley can do either, but we’d like to know whether we should be cheering or booing.
