5 Ways AEW Is Appealing To Millennials (And 5 Ways It’s Failing)
1. Failing - Failing To Make Wrestling Cool Again
Look, as wrestling fans we all want another boom period, a time where we can freely flaunt our love of the squared circle and have it be the in thing again. The reality however is that while many hoped AEW would be the one to bring wrestling mainstream once more, it hasn’t exactly been able to achieve this, with viewership still hovering around the 1 million viewer mark each week and their reach still far inferior to that of WWE’s.
To be fair though, this is still only a two-year-old company we’re talking about and there’s plenty of space to grow still. Still, when it comes to being that water cooler talking point that gets younger people excited, Tony Khan’s company have been unable to reach that next level thus far, failing to capitalise on the recent momentum of the CM Punk and Bryan Danielson debuts as things now settle back into their normal patterns.
Can another boom period even happen at this point? Well, that remains to be seen. Unless it does, AEW’s younger audience will always remain limited, even if it continues to grow on a slow and steady basis. And while that might be good enough for now, it won’t necessarily keep TNT and TBS happy forever.
