5 Ways WWE Use Money In The Bank Terribly
4. Placing Money In The Bank On Established Stars
The first few years of Money in the Bank was used to help establish stars. Edge, Daniel Bryan and CM Punk rose through the ranks of WWE. A large reason for the rise of these wrestlers was capturing Money In The Bank. The likes of Jack Swagger and Alberto Del Rio benefited from wins here too.
However, like with the Royal Rumble, they also gave it stars that didn’t need the rub.
Let’s start with Cena, shall we?
Placing the Money In The Bank on Cena feels like a complete waste of time on reflection. There would have been some other way for CM Punk to turn heel, and the opportunity to create a new star was wasted.
We also had Randy Orton win in the match dubbed ‘Money in the Bank All-Stars’. This felt like a forced way to shove The Authority down our throats - since it was.
Then we had Sheamus win in 2015, who was an established fella (pun intended) already. Placing this on the former King Of The Ring winner was done for two reasons. Firstly, to make a babyface out of Roman Reigns during the eventual cash-in (it didn't work). Secondly, to help reposition the Irishman back in the main event scene.
The Celtic Warrior was a declining attraction, and the briefcase was used as a means to both save him and create a positive crowd reaction for 'The Big Dog'. It did neither.
These successes could have been placed on superstars that would have benefited significantly from winning the briefcase.
