5 Ways WWE Use Money In The Bank Terribly

1. Drawing Heat, In The Wrong Way

Carmella’s original Money In The Bank win was a complete mess. There is no doubt about it.

It’s a wonder that she managed to recover from such a horrible mess.

In an historic match in the first ever Women’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match, a man grabbed the contract. This was at a time when WWE was trying to project the women as equals to men after years of being presented as second-rate.

The backlash from the WWE Universe was unprecedented. This was a reaction of disgust and shame for the sport that they love. The result has since been wiped from history, a smart move given the widespread censure - not to mention scandal surrounding Ellsworth's personal life.

Any image you see coming from WWE will not show you James Ellsworth grabbing the briefcase. The image you do see is that of ‘The Princess Of Staten Island’ retrieving it nine days later on SmackDown. Wise choice.

After spending the previous two years building the Women’s Division up, this set the roster back quite some way.

It’s a wonder she went on to defeat Charlotte Flair and Asuka retaining her title until SummerSlam 2018.

This was clearly done to draw heat on Carmella, but was it worth sacrificing Money in the Bank - and such a significant one, no less - to achieve that aim? Absolutely not.
