5 Ways WWE Use Money In The Bank Terribly
2. Having Money In The Bank Winners Constantly Lose
Apparently, the reason Damien Sandow failed his cash-in on Cena is because Vince McMahon didn’t see him as a star. He saw that he had lost too much, and nobody would take him seriously because of it.
Just try to get your head around that. The Chairman who booked Sandow to lose most matches, then didn’t see him as much of a winner. Go figure.
Carmella and The Miz experienced a similar process, and this ended up hurting their titles reigns. Both were booked to lose matches and look weak. Subsequently, when their stints with the belt began, they were not considered main event worthy.
Baron Corbin also fell victim to weak booking before, during and after his Money In The Bank win. ‘The Lone Wolf’ had not won a PPV match since TLC 2016 when he claimed the briefcase in June 2017. He then didn’t win on PPV until October 2017 at Hell In A Cell.
This is not the stats of a star in the making.
The problem with the MITB briefcase is that the superstar is taking advantage of a situation, and in turn, potentially doesn’t need to look overly strong.
The backwards view from WWE's perspective is that it doesn't matter if the MITB winner loses a few matches here and there. The briefcase is seen to protect them from these loses, and still be viewed as World Championship material.
Then they wonder why nobody, including WWE themselves, takes them seriously after losing so many matches? It's almost as bad as when WWE job-out their mid-card champions to superstars in the main event.
