5 Wrestlers Who Will Get Over In AEW (And 5 Who Won't)
5. Marko Stunt WON'T...
Marko Stunt's addition to the Jurassic Express stable felt like a diminished return immediately. He dilutes the dynamic more than he adds to it; Jungle Boy is already a slight, sympathetic babyface performer who relies on his prehistoric sh*t-kicker to survive against much larger heel opponents.
To AEW's credit, the road agents tasked with laying out the Express six-man tags, and Stunt himself, have a keen grasp of how to effectively integrate his style into a more believable context. In every last offensive manoeuvre he manages to land, he is launched into with the help of Luchasaurus or Jungle Boy. It's either that, or he uses his speed and aerial ability to attack a prone opponent. The attention to detail is very impressive: somehow, suspension of disbelief is rendered just about possible when this childlike wrestler is in an AEW ring.
Crowds have so far accepted it - at most.
His stuff gets over, because the act is so over, but he's extraneous to it, and it's the only context in which he can succeed. The prospect of Stunt in a singles match is some reach, even for a crowd willing to accept anything.
His stuff pops more on the Indies, and the AEW crowd already feels more traditional in inclination.
