5 WWE Legends, Lies & Mistruths Revealed (And Debunked)

2. The Ultimate Warrior Was Killed By A Great White Shark

ultimate warrior For years it was widely rumoured that former WWF Champion The Ultimate Warrior was dead. After his initial run in the WWF ended Warrior - then Jim Hellwig - disappeared from the wrestling landscape all together, presumably returning to his home in Parts Unknown. But what reason did the WWF give for his absence? Well one favourite story involved the wild man of wrestling being either attacked or even EATEN by a Great White Shark while surfing off the coast of Australia. In fact if memory serves those words came straight out of the mouth of legendary commentator Gorilla Monsoon. Of course the Shark tale was complete b.s. but when Warrior returned to WWF television at Wrestlemania 8 the rumours started once more. The guy who showed up to save Hulk Hogan from a beat down at the hands of Sid Justice and Papa Shango was without question an imposter. After all he was slimmer, less chiselled and had different colour hair to the man last seen at Summerslam 1991. No one bothered to mention that he simply wasn't in as good shape as he had been or that he'd maybe had a haircut. This time fans theorised that the real Ultimate Warrior had died of Liver failure as a result of years of steroid abuse or that his biceps were so big his tasselled arm bands cut off his circulation and killed him. But the truth of the matter dear readers was that it was always Jim Hellwig under the face paint. The Ultimate Warrior was not dead it was just his career that had died way back in 1991.
