5 WWE Women's Feuds That Ruled (And 5 That Sucked)
3. Mickie James Vs. Trish Stratus
Another appearance by everyone's favourite blonde-haired Canadian (sorry Edge, Jericho, Christian, Natalya Neidhart and, erm, Kizarny). Trish was well established as the premier WWE diva in late 2005, having had enormously successful runs as both as a babyface and a heel champion and having faced and beaten just about everyone in the division, multiple times.
But by this point there was (as was the case when Victoria was brought up from developmental to feud with Trish in 2002) nobody for her to compete with anymore and so WWE brought up Mickie James from OVW in October 2005. She was given the gimmick of an obsessed Trish fan. Trish's biggest, even.
Mickie would swoon over her idol, help her win matches, adopt her signature moves as her own and even dressed up as Trish during a Halloween costume contest on Raw. Things got a little more 'Single White Female' when James planted a liplock on Stratus during a festive edition of Raw, which Trish definitely didn't welcome.
Trish won their first singles match at New Year's Revolution, and Mickie took the loss like a good sport. She could not, however, take Trish becoming friendly with Diva Search winner Ashley Massaro, and she became more and more unhinged before finally turning on her hero on the March 18 2006 edition of Saturday Night's Main Event in a good angle.
That set up their big showdown at WrestleMania 22 which was (at least before the bungled finish) one of the finest women's outings to grace a WWE ring in many a year. Mickie won the match and the Women's Title but, sadly, their feud was cut short when Stratus suffered a shoulder injury during their rematch at Backlash the next month.
Still, although it may have petered out in the end, their storyline from October 2005 to WrestleMania 22 was some of the best, most compelling television WWE have ever produced, women's division or otherwise.
